PHOTOGRAPHY

~ an architectural photography experience ~

For my third self-designed architectural experience, I decided to develop my own architectural photography portfolio, and gather what I can about the built environment while doing it. One of my professors once said, “In order to be a good designer, one must first recognize good design.” Through working on this portfolio, I not only improved my skills in photography but also gleaned design tactics and most importantly, things to be aware of when designing.

I had the pleasure of living and working in Chicago this past semester on co-op, and what better place to start my architectural photography journey than in a place with such a variety of design styles! I was constantly admiring the architecture, taking photographs of it, and learning from it. I took too many photos to count. My portfolio, however, isn’t just a collection of images. It’s carefully curated and meant to illustrate the three major design concepts and considerations that I discovered throughout the process. The three concepts, “cluster”, “skyscape”, and “materiality” are explained with the help of the images, a brief summary, and a sketch diagram I created. I hope that through this portfolio, my audience can learn something new about design.
